After
choking away several opportunities to seal victory and advance to the
American League Championship Series (ALCS) last night, the Yankees find themselves staring at elimination tonight if they don't get their act together and start hitting.
The biggest news to report now is that Alex Rodriguez will not be in the starting lineup
for tonight's game, sending shock waves around the baseball world. One
of the game's all-time greats will be available off the bench, but don't
expect to see him anywhere near a big-game situation if manager Joe Girardi can afford it.
One game will decide which team advances to face the Detroit Tigers tomorrow night in the ALCS. If the Yankees win, they'll be home for Game 1 in the Bronx. If the Orioles wins, they will travel to Detroit.
So
much rides tonight on CC Sabathia, but if the Yankees don't hit, they
almost certainly will not advance. With the exception of one huge
ninth-inning outburst in Game 1, the Yankees' lineup has been dreadful
for the balance of this series. It's bordering on surreal how they've
won two games.
